Maija Isola
Whoever get's in contact to finnish design history sooner or later will stumble over marimekko. Founded in 1951 this company is quite important to finnish design and culture. I can point these patterns anywhere and in 8 of 10 cases I'll spot a finn. I personally like these patterns of Maija Isola. Not because I'd like to sport grandmas skirt with the ultra hot Unikko pattern, but because of the character of her designs and their qualities. Some will evoke memories of your childhood, some patterns will remind you of the covers of early russian electro LPs others will perfectly fit into your arty loft office. In case you'll have the chance to see the textiles go and have a look. I suppose they're still handmade silkscreenprints and having a closer look at it you'll get an idea of the various techniques Isola had to use and the long and expensive production she had to run through back then. And a slight feeling remains in contemporary fashion looking at Ivana, Petra Hankaniemi or Kristina Lenss as Antje puts it already out.Edit: By the way check this blog in case your looking for something patterned - obiously not the shit but maybe helpfull.

Anchorman for Scriptographer finalized
See the mighty Anchorman in action and judge yourself.
Jonathan Puckey helped me a lot to finalize the script and actually made it a lot more user friendly. Now the script works as intended, no errors and a lot of fun visualizing anchors, handlerpoints as well as handlers.

letzte nacht hats uns gepackt..wir haben heimlich gebatikt. allerdings ohne schnur und ringe. wir haben uns für den prada-farbverlauf entschieden:

Wir stricken!
Endlich ist es soweit! Wir haben die Strickmaschinen ausgepackt. Erstmal die kleinste. Aber bei der sind wir schon ziemlich schnell an die Grenzen des Machbaren gestoßen. Eigene Muster is nich!
Heute haben wir nun die nächste Maschine aufgebaut. Die hat einen richtigen kleinen Computer....wie aufregend.

Es geht voran mit unserer Arbeit für die Austellung. Hier mal ein paar zusätzliche Infos zu der ganzen Sache:

How did the “Bauhaus” feel about the “Bauhaus” while it was the “Bauhaus”? What did history do to it and its reception in the public thought? Isn’t it that there never was such a thing as a “Gesamtkunstwerk”, is it even possible there will be? And still, yes of course one might argue the famous “Gropius Zimmer” or the “Meisterhäuser” in Dessau, have, by means of historic well-keeping, been accepted as such. Time works. It does! How does time work for us? What is left and will it be what you think?
Ausstellung: 6.9. - 6.10.08 in Bonn "E105"
The exhibition will take place at the Gallery E105 in Bonn from september until the end of the year. The opening is the 6th of september.
Most of the content that's going to be exhibited in the show will come from the preheld four day workshop which will take place in the week from the 14th until the 18th of july. Together with Tjeerd Veenhoven, who furthermore will be holding a lecture about his work, the participants of the workshop, the guests and the main group will work on different pieces which in the end have to be sellable or at least be produceable, since it'll be a vending exhibition.
Der Workshop:
We as students from Weimar were asked to develop a new view onto the diverse and difficult theme “Gesamtkunstwerk”, throwing up new thoughts and challenging old concepts. As an introduction to the topic a 4-day workshop will take place in Weimar in the week of the 14th - 18th of July 2008, bringing together participants and ideas from all faculties. We are going to look into our own perception, tear apart the blown up concepts and phrases the Bauhaus is described with everyday and search for a description a bit closer to the truth of everyday life. What is it we identify with and that makes Weimar such a unique place to study? Step ahead and define a part of our future reception. After the workshop we push our ideas further and exhibit the whole collection in September 2008 at the gallery E105 and as part of the Bauhaus 09 anniversary in 2009.

Die Weberei am frühen Bauhaus war die erfolgreichste der Werkstätten. Die dort arbeitenden Schülerinnen erweiterten die bis dahin bekannten Techniken, verwendeten und kombinierten neue Materialien und bezogen den Fortschritt der damaligen Zeit direkt in die Herstellung neuer Textilien mit ein.
Nach der Auflösung des Bauhauses trugen die Weberinnen ihre Kenntnisse in die ganze Welt und übten so einen maßgeblichen Einfluss auf die Entwicklung der Textilkunst.
Heute wird diese Tradition der Weberei und Textilarbeit an der Bauhaus-Universität nicht mehr fortgeführt.
Um an diesen ursprünglichen Bestandteil des Bauhauses zu erinnern und um sich mit ihm auseinanderzusetzen, haben wir an der Konstruktion eines Wandbehanges mithilfe zweier Strickmaschinen gearbeitet. Als gestalterische Grundlage dienten Grundrisse der Dessauer Mustersiedlung.
