»old school«

Gestern ist die Sommerausgabe des Image-Magazins frisch vom Drucker gekommen und der deutsche Praktikant durfte dieser Ausgabe eine kleine Remineszenz an die 80er Jahre Serie Miami Vice beisteuern, ein Mini-Pokkari.

Während die finnischen Fussballkommentatoren Angola - Portugal hitzig kommentieren (wenigstens kein Beckmann aber leider auch kein Delling-vs-Netzer-Gekloppe) war ich irgendwo in der Karibik und hab den ersten Teil von Monkey Island zu Ende gebracht. Gefühlte 13 Jahre habe ich mit der Frage verbringen müssen, was passiert nur nach den Killerpudeln? Was ist das Idol der 1000 Hände? Und warum muss mein Amiga 500 immer bei der dritten, der war's die zweite, Diskette abschmieren?! Nun sind die Fragen beantwortet, zumindest die ersten beiden, und Zufrieden grins ich auf den Bildschirm.

Edit: Und ich erinner mich an nen Artikel aus dem Amiga Joker nach dem die Verfilmungsrechte von Monkey Island streng geheim verkauft wurden. Weise war's eher die Zutaten von Monkey Island zu verwursten, als dass man die Story verfilmte …und der zweite Teil kommt bald in die Kinos: Pirates of the Karibbean 2!

Whoever get's in contact to finnish design history sooner or later will stumble over marimekko. Founded in 1951 this company is quite important to finnish design and culture. I can point these patterns anywhere and in 8 of 10 cases I'll spot a finn. I personally like these patterns of Maija Isola. Not because I'd like to sport grandmas skirt with the ultra hot Unikko pattern, but because of the character of her designs and their qualities. Some will evoke memories of your childhood, some patterns will remind you of the covers of early russian electro LPs others will perfectly fit into your arty loft office. In case you'll have the chance to see the textiles go and have a look. I suppose they're still handmade silkscreenprints and having a closer look at it you'll get an idea of the various techniques Isola had to use and the long and expensive production she had to run through back then. And a slight feeling remains in contemporary fashion looking at Ivana, Petra Hankaniemi or Kristina Lenss as Antje puts it already out.

A movie spanning the history of type! Perfect material for a lazy student like me, and perfect for my project right now. Since it's a bit vague, I'll drop some info/ progression bout it later.
