spring is purple

currently i´m listening all day to the zombies´ "odessey and oracle" and prince´s "purple rain". though so different two of the greatest records ever made, two of the greatest records to make your spring. and according to this dj katzenzungen just mailed me two links that made my day. worth to be shared.
probably one of the greatest shows ever played. james brown, michael jackson & prince on one stage
prince live tv performance
also great though i´m not anymore into mash ups: purple reign. bangers no anthems!
liars, drum´s not dead

Currently I´m listening over and over again to latest liars record drum´s not dead. If you don´t know or got it yet, buy it, don´t download it. It´s worth. Not only cause of the great graphic design (I have to confess not liking it in the beginning, but loving it now), which is a visual augenschmaus related to mexican technoflyers (Designed by band member Julian Gross, who did also most of the yeah yeah yeahs designs). It also contains a dvd with 3 videoclips for each song (equals 36) directed by band members Angus Andrews, Julian Gross and by formerly Bauhaus student, award winning filmmaker and glitz dj Markus Wambsganss. Also Markus´ clip for liars´ “the other side of mount heart attack” was in my eyes one of the greatest clips in 2005.
There´s so much to write about liars´ work and transformation from hippest dance post punk to avantgard experimental whatever, about consistently being inconsistent and surprise expectations with innovations beyond hype. It´s a record to listen over and over again to get used to and to discover all hidden elements making you wow. But better read the pitchfork review. Or check out liarsliarsliars.com or their myspace site to listen to their tunes. Meantime on my trip through Columbia i´m looking forward meeting some indios, playing them this record to see what happens.

the eRg at wOrk

Some of the time anyway. ..china is the kind of place where one can live out the sort of fantasies that help stave off western-minded crises til a riper age - a time when such calamities
of life will be either trivialised or forgotten.
at least one can hope.
case in point, some recent musical ventures. this taken from a summer gig of the cheatles - a shameless rip-off of the fab four with a twist of humour.
i was 'jorge' (rather than george), which helped account for the goatee..

the broken hearts club today, mek obaam tomorrow, the rapture and yyys mp3, gondry trailer
so, squirrrrrl was over and we spended the last three days watching the whole last season of six feet under. boy, all i can say is .... wow! ... fuck! ... wow! stunning. speachless. still mindfucked. claire fisher, i love you. honestly, i can´t imagine any better tv series ever.

anyway, here´s a pic from deichkind rocking the float at loveparade.

ok something about going out. tonight is the dark side of the broken hearts club. the broken hearts club is an awesome monthly thrown party of people playing there favourite love songs. regularly it´s thrown at this kinky thai whorehouse called my thai, but tonights it´s taking place at this goth bar called last cathedral on schoenhauser allee next to white trash. come over.

while spinning, mrks and me are becoming more and more like an old couple. so it doesn´t happen that often that markus puts on a song making me "wow, what is this?!" but so he did last time, by spinning mek obaam. mek obaam is a berlin based singer songwriter sounding somehow folk. somehow beatles. i don´t know. but it´s awesome and he´ll play kaffee burger tomorrow, friday 28th and i highly recomend it. check out his myspace site or his regular site and listen to different universes on the player.
this big stereo posted some nice mp3 for download this week.
the rapture - "get myself into it" mp3
yeah yeah yeahs - "cheated hearts" (peaches remix x2) mp3

and if you still don´t feel like going out in the sun, the trailer for michel gondry´s last flick the science of sleep is online, starring gael garcia bernal and charlotte gainsbourg. i saw it at last berlinale film festival. it´s wonderful.
and finally a documentary about an issue that had to be done someday is going to be screened. let´s see if hardcore will finally go mainstream in the second half of this decade or is still being stucked as it was last. watch the trailer for american hardcore by paul rachman.

new chris cunningham video for the horrors, mskrft work on you video
i just survived the illest weekend. including raving on the mediengruppe telekommander & deichkind float on the loveparade and breaking my own neck by wildest headbanging on whomadewho & uffie on same days vice party. ... i still need some time to reflect about this. my ears are still beeping and my neck ... it really still hurts.
but until then here are some actually really nice video clips:

sheena is a parasite by the horrors directed by cunningham, which is truly not that huge thing as you might expect, but it´s just ... really good. actually the more i watch it the more i like it. same as the horrors, who also played vice 1st aniversary party. but i missed them.

mstkrft - work on you. though daft punk did something very similar with interstella 555, you´ll always get me with robots.

Indieuniforms. And YYYs.
I'm just back from the Immergut Festival and it was a blast although the weather was more than shit. The blast were especially the YEAH YEAH YEAHS. I never was quite a big a fan of them but now I am. Couldn't have anybody told me that their newer songs are really that good. Cause I only knew the first EP Master. I've never heard of Maps or Y Control before. But now I have.
And of course for me they are also interesting in a fashion way. Especially Karen O. and her awesome stage costumes. All her stuff is designed by the NYC indie designer Christian Joy. She's not only designing for the YYYs but also for the Liars and, of course, she also has her own collection. Which is also actually quite nice and on top - really affordable.

ann and mrks spinning 8mm on monday 29th

while last 8mm bash seemed to be ... (well let´s say, some called it) a bit out of control (didn´t noticed. as far as i can remember it was pretty awesome. well, let´s call it normal) and i´m hustling with packing and moving ann and mrks gonna spin and dance the night away today.
hallo ihr tröten,
ich sage es immer gerne wieder, damit auch Ihr wisst, weswegen ihr zu
hause bleibt:
triple trouble (mrks & ann)
am montag, 29.05

ab halb 11
diesmal spielen wir nur langsame indiemusik und trinken auch gar
nichts.
versprochen.
