Too Cool for School
The Twilight Style.
A view weeks back we watched the highly hyped teen movie "Twilight" and were blasted away by the stunning performance of Robert Pattinson.
I really appreciate the down-to-earth costumes. Wearing a down Parka with a waffle piqué longsleeve.

And again, re-introducing the wayfarer. He is just too cool for school. Matching his text line exactly: We will straight go to hell. Every girl wishes that every boy would wear wayfarer these days. But excuse me, they nearly do.
The Ray-Ban Wayfarer is manufactered since the rollin Fifties. And it's still a classic! Ever since it had a special relationship to movies. Starring in the highly recommanded "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in 1961, worn by Audrey Hepburn, of course. Is it a coincidence that's one of my favourite movies, too? I don't think so.
According to design critic Stephen Bayley, the "distinctive trapezoidal frame spoke a non-verbal language that hinted at unstable dangerousness, but one nicely tempered by the sturdy arms which, according to the advertising, gave the frames a 'masculine look.'" (Bayley, Stephen. "Notes & Theories: Through a Pair of Glasses Darkly." The Independent on Sunday (June 18, 2006).)

That's why we love it so much. Every girl wants a little bit of danger in her life! I can tell you!
It's been in so many movies and worn by so many stars. Amazing. Originally it was also produced as pilot shades, the same as the Ray-Ban Aviators. And targeted a mainly male custumer. However more and more sophisticated ladies started to sport a Wayfarer, like Kim Novak, Marilyn Monroe and Audrey herself. It has always been a part of Hollywood. In 1984 it finally got eternalized in Don Henley's song "The Boys Of Summer": You got that hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on, baby

After a starving time back in the 80s and a lot of trail-and-error re-designs, the original Wayfarer came back a few years ago. Never change a winning horse! The edgy and rebellious design is the knack when it comes down to a wayfarer! Did you know that the frames' tilt made them impossible to perch on top of one's head?! Now you know why it was a shelf warmer in the 90s. Wasn't it all about how it looks good in your hair? Right behind the huge power bangs! Thank god these days are over. If you always thought the 80s were worth a good throw up, NO, it was the horrible 90s!

Happy Neujahr.
